Overview of fire steel door


Definition of Fire Steel Door (FSD)

A door that is installed in a fire-fighting area compartmentalized by floor, area, or use to prevent further spread even if a fire occurs in the building and to mitigate the damage caused by it

Classification of fire doors according to non-insulated performance
  1. A type fire steel door - As a result of fire test according to KS F 2268-1, performance of more than 1 hour of non-insulation should be secured
  2. B type fire steel door - As a result of fire test according to KS F 2268-1, performance of more than 30 minutes of non-insulation should be secured

Criteria for fire partition installation


What is the fire partition?

It refers to a partition made of fireproof flooring, walls, fire doors or fireproof shutters so that fire does not spread throughout the building when a fire occurs in a large building.

Article 14 (Establishment Standard for fire partition)
  1. Floors of 10 or less floors should be divided within a floor area of 1,000 square meters. (floor area 3,000 square meters if a sprinkler or similar automatic fire extinguisher is installed)
  2. 3 or more floors and basement floors should be divided into every floor. However, except for the part of the ramp that directly connects to the ground from the first basement floor.
  3. Floors above 11 stories should be divided within a floor area of 200 square meters (600 square meters if a sprinkler or similar automatic fire extinguisher is installed).
    However, if the finishing of the portion of the wall and half of the room facing the room is made of incombustible materials, it should be partitioned within a floor space of 500 square meters (1,500 square meters if sprinklers or similar automatic fire extinguishing systems are installed).
(Criteria for installation of evacuation space)
  1. If each household of apartments of four or more floors cannot use two or more direct stairways, at least one evacuation space should be installed on the balcony with adjacent households or each household having all of the following requirements:
    1. The evacuation space should be in contact with the outside air
    2. The evacuation space should be partitioned into other parts of the room and the fire partition
    3. If installed in conjunction with adjacent households, the floor area of the evacuation space should be at least 3 square meters and at least 2 square meters if installed for each household.
    4. It should meet the standards set by the Minister of Land, Transport and Tourism
  2. Notwithstanding the provisions of Paragraph 4, if a structure or facility corresponding to any of the following items is installed on the balcony at the floor of more than 4 floors of the apartment, the evacuation space may not be installed.
    1. In the case of a lightweight structure where the boundary wall between adjacent households is easy to destroy
    2. If an evacuation port is installed in a boundary wall
    3. If a top-down evacuation area is established on the bottom of the balcony as defined by the Ministry of Land Transportation
    4. Performance equal to or better than the evacuation space in accordance with paragraph 4 through the deliberation by the Central Building Committee by the Minister of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs
  3. In addition to the evacuation floor of the nursing hospital, psychiatric hospital, 「Elderly Welfare Act」 residency facilities for disabled persons and medical rehabilitation facilities for persons with disabilities, the following facilities should be installed
    1. Separate fire escape space for each floor
    2. Evacuation balcony open to the outside air by directly connecting to living room
